The Solution

The prevailing need in local communities is not for financial support, but opportunities.

The Process

Teachers are trained to become agents of change who go beyond the “nuts and bolts” of basic language instruction to inspire holistic transformation in their students.

Unlike traditional teaching methods, which can be rigid, teachers are equipped with tools that are adaptable for different learning styles and group dynamics. Projects are organized in areas of documented need—usually remote villages and slums.

The teachers then instruct 30 illiterate adult students through an intensive one-year literacy class. Materials are supplied that are locally-developed in order to maximize the impact for their students. With thousands of people on the waiting list, your investment means real opportunities.

Sustainability

The program is enduring and replicable because it is rooted in educational investment. For $40, a student can learn the skills necessary to ignite positive change and set the stage for a dynamic community that can exchange ideas and propose solutions to problems that matters most.

Countries We Work In

Currently the program is running in 37 languages throughout India, 2 languages in Ethiopia, parts of Kenya, Refugee Camps in Northern Uganda and Bangladesh. The Adult Literacy Projects have been running successfully throughout villages in India for over 25 years. Seeing this success, ReWrite Life has expanded it's support to neighboring countries and beyond.  To do so, the curriculum is not just translated, but developed to fit the countries values & needs.

“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is a tool for daily life in modern society. It is a platform for democratization, and a vehicle for the promotion of cultural and national identity.” -Kofi Annan
